The Australian Government selected the bid submitted by BAE Systems and Navantia in 2008 for the construction of two new LHD ships for its Navy. The ships were built from hull to flight deck at the Fene and Ferrol shipyards in Navantia and then transported to Australia, where BAE Systems provided the superstructure, supported by Navantia.
Named Canberra and Adelaide, both ships based their design on that of the Spanish Amphibious Assault Ship Juan Carlos I.
In this project GHENOVA developed the complete naval detail engineering of the forepeak and the hangar. We were also responsible for the identification of pneumatic and hydraulic elements, the development of the logistic procedures for testing prior to delivery and for the support of the production and maintenance engineering.
The engineering details covered structures, rollers, electricity, electronics, piping systems, machines, piping, HVAC, instrumentation/control and rating.
