Narrative description of the project
The Portuguese Navy is enhancing its fleet capabilities through the acquisition of six additional Viana do Castelo-class offshore patrol vessels, designated as the NPO3S program. These vessels are being built by West Sea – Viana Shipyard in Viana do Castelo, Portugal. Enhanced operational roles: The new OPVs are designed to perform a variety of missions, including maritime patrol, surveillance, fisheries protection, search and rescue, disaster relief, environmental protection, and the prevention of illicit activities such as drug trafficking and illegal immigration.
