Narrative description of the project:

The new Oceanographic Vessel (B/O) Sarmiento de Gamboa, was built in Vigo (Spain) and launched on January 30, 2006, has the consideration of Large Scientific Installation and incorporates the most advanced technologies both in terms of navigation systems (e.g. dynamic positioning) and scientific equipment, besides being the first Spanish oceanographic vessel that will be able to work with ROV’s (Remote Operated Vehicle) of high depths and AUV’s (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle). It will be primarily destined to do research and science in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, so its base of operations is located in the port of Vigo (Galicia).
