The Dunbar plant will be able to process up to 300,000 tonnes of waste per year and will be part of the many measures the Scottish government will be implementing to achieve the target of zero emissions of biodegradable municipal waste by 2021. The recycling company Viridor selected B&W Vølund and its construction company, Interserve, to design and build this facility. The waste to energy plant is scheduled to come on stream in the fourth quarter of 2017.
