KELVIN ‘CHP Ready’ Energy Recovery Facility (ERF)

Location: West Bromwich, UNITED KINGDOM

Client: Acciona Industrial

Final Client: Enfinium

Development: 2021-2023

Processing capacity: 370.000 tons/year

Power Output: 49 MW

Boiler Technology: Babcock & Wilcox Vølund

Narrative description of the project:

The Plant will consist of a single stream ‘CHP Ready’ Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) plant nominally processing up to 370,000 tonnes of residual waste per year, incorporating a complete combustion system, heat recovery and flue gas treatment plant, and supplying steam to a steam turbine generator.

The site is located within the existing Giffords Recycling Complex located on Kelvin Way, which lies approximately 1km to the south of West Bromwich town centre.

Waste will be delivered to the Plant by vehicles and tipped into a bunker. The combustion system will be fed from the bunker via an overhead gantry crane equipped with a grab.

Residues as bottom ash and boiler ash are intended to be reprocessed into aggregate off-site. No reprocessing system is included in the project scope.

The Plant will be designed to maintain an approximate gross electrical output of around 49 MWe.
